The term “safe sex” is actually a myth. Broken hearts can  cause lifelong scars.  Unplanned pregnancies can ruin your dreams and force many teens to drop out of school and live on incomes below the poverty level. STI's cause pain, sterility, cancer, and death. Condoms provide far less protection than most people think offering only risky risk reduction. Don’t risk your life and your future on a piece of latex. The only "safe sex" is to "save" sex until marriage and remain faithful to your partner.

How safe is "safe sex" anyway?

The term “safe sex” is actually a myth.  Condoms do nothing to protect your heart so they cannot prevent the wide array of emotional damage that results from premarital sex. Condoms have a 15 percent failure rate for preventing pregnancy during the first year of use and in some groups of teenagers this failure rate rises to 36 percent. So the odds are good that you will eventually experience a pregnancy while using condoms. In fact, about 50 percent of female teens relying on condoms as their method of birth control will become pregnant within 3 years.  Condoms break (7.9%), leak (FDA permits 4 per 1,000 to leak), slip off (7.2%) and are often used incorrectly and inconsistently by most adolescents.  While latex condoms are compromised by temperatures over 75 degrees, the FDA does not require transport in temperature controlled trucks.

If the condom’s failure rate for preventing pregnancy is 1 in 6, then its failure rate for preventing the spread of disease is far worse. Only females can get pregnant, whereas both males and females can get STIs.  Females can only get pregnant about 3 days out of a month, but you can become infected with an STI every day of the year. STIs are caused by bacteria and viruses that are much smaller than sperm so they can actually pass right through the pores or voids in the latex.

When it comes to the rampant skin to skin STIs like HPV and Herpes, condoms offer very little or no protection at all since the warts and blisters often lie outside the area being covered by the condom. Recent studies show that the transmission rates of chlamydia, the most common bacterial STI, were just about the same with or without the use of condoms.Condom failure rates for discharge STIs like gonorrhea and syphilis are in the range of 40-60 percent. Some of the latest studies are revealing up to an 80 percent condom failure rate in preventing the transmission of the deadly AIDS virus.

Broken hearts can cause lifelong scars.  Unplanned pregnancies can ruin your dreams and force many teens to drop out of school and live on incomes below the poverty level. STIs cause pain, sterility, cancer, and death. Condoms provide far less protection than most people think offering only risky risk reduction. Don’t risk you life and your future on a piece of latex. The only safe sex is to save sex until marriage and remain sexually faithful during marriage.
